Dateless Registration Numbers - such as TLP3 are considered 'cherished numbers' and whilst very desirable, they usually are the most expensive because the letters come first in the number. The three letters may be followed by the number range 1 to 999. Similarly numbers begining with two letters may be followed by the number range 1 to 9999 and date back as far as 1903.

Reverse Dateless Registrations - marks are as they sound. TLP3 for example would Be 3TPL. They are called 'reversed cherished marks' and usually are slightly less valuable than the original cherished marks. The three letters may be preceded by the number range 1 to 999, and likewise the two letter numbers may be preceded by the number range 1 to 9999.

Suffix Registrations - numbers contain a year identifier at the end of the combination. For example: JAG 125L. Combinations within this category always have three letters and may be followed by the number range 1 to 999. Then the year number from A to Y, excluding I, O, Q, U and Z, as these letters could be confused with numbers. Click here to find out which registrations suffix you can use. Prefix Registrations - once the suffix numbers were exhausted the year number was moved to the front of the registration marks. For example: P44 ALS or K55 ERY . The numbers always have three letters and a number between 21 to 999, plus the year letter again, excluding I, O, Q, U and Z, to avoid confusion. New Format Registrations - Ok, letī s start with the number P055 HPL. The first two letters P0 are region identifierī s and refer to the region and DVLA/DVLC office from which they were issued. In this case the region= Preston and the issuing DVLA/DVLC office=Cardiff. The letters 55 are the age identifiers 55= between 01-09-2005 and 28-02-2006 The last 3 digits are random. 'Q' Registration - marks are reserved for the replacement of marks where a vehicle registration number has been previously made void, they cannot be sold on this site.
